The UN announced the painful situation in Gaza

UN: More than half of those killed in Gaza are women and children

The United Nations Fund (UNFPA), the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) made a joint statement on the events in Gaza.

“HOSPITALS ARE REJECTED”

The statement said the bombing caused extensive damage to health facilities and that gynecology, neonatal and child care services were disrupted due to water and electricity outages, and limited shortages of food and medicine.

THERE ARE 50 THOUSAND PREGNANT

The statement stated that there are currently 50,000 pregnant women in Gaza, and with the closure of 14 hospitals and 45 health centers, it was found that some women gave birth in shelters, houses or among the rubble.

“The life of the newborn depends on a thread”

The statement stated that an increase in maternal deaths during pregnancy is expected due to lack of adequate care, adding: “The lives of newborns hang by a thread. “If hospitals run out of fuel, the lives of 130 premature babies who need intensive care and neonatal care will be in danger as incubators and other medical equipment will not be able to function.” the warning was given.

“SOME OF THE DEAD BABIES ARE A FEW MONTHS OLD”

The statement reported that 2,326 women and 3,760 children were killed in the Gaza Strip, corresponding to 67 percent of all victims, adding: “This means that 420 children are killed or injured every day.” They are babies only a few months old,” the statement said.

The statement underlined the urgent need for a humanitarian pause in the conflict and emphasized that civilians and especially children must be protected in accordance with international humanitarian law. (AA)
