The United States imposes sanctions on Hamas on nine people and institutions

US President Joe Biden’s administration announced sanctions against a secret Hamas investment portfolio, an Iran-linked financier and a virtual exchange house in Gaza, “to cut off funding to the Hamas organization in Gaza.”

The US Treasury Department’s statement imposed sanctions on nine individuals and one Hamas-affiliated institution in Gaza, Sudan, Turkey, Algeria and Qatar, within the scope of a terrorism decree.

“The United States is taking swift and decisive action against Hamas financiers following their brutal and unconscionable massacre of Israeli civilians, including children,” said US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen. “We will continue to take all necessary measures to prevent Hamas terrorists from raising and using funds to carry out their atrocities and terrorize the Israeli people,” Yellen said.

US President Joe Biden also traveled to Tel Aviv today and met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and reiterated his support for Israel. (Reuters)
