Flood disaster in Greece… The heaviest rain in the country’s history occurs

Meteorologists attending the meeting stated that the precipitation observed in the country today is probably the heaviest downpour in the country’s history. The meteorologists pointed out that these heavy downpours usually occur in October and November in the country, and affirmed that tomorrow the heavy rains and winds will continue.
At the meeting, in addition to measures to combat the flood disaster, measures that can be taken to keep roads leading to important areas such as hospitals open were discussed.
HUNDREDS OF HOUSES UNDERWATER
The heavy rains that have fallen on the country today have negatively affected Volos, Pilio, Larisa and the island of Skiathos, especially in the Thessaly region. In the region where hundreds of homes and businesses were flooded, dozens of vehicles were swept away.
Due to the flooding of the Volos hospital, health services, especially the chemotherapy department, were interrupted. Hospital equipment and devices were damaged. There were frequent power outages throughout the day in the area.
More than a hundred people who were trapped in their homes, vehicles and workplaces due to the flooding were rescued by firefighters.
According to data from the Meteorological Service, rainfall in Pilio exceeded 600 millimeters. In Zagoras the amount of rainfall from midnight to 3:00 p.m. was 645 millimeters.
