Tension on the border between India and China: thousands of soldiers deployed

Ahead of the 19th round of China-India talks on resolving the Himalayan border conflict, the Indian Air Force has flown 68,000 soldiers and a large amount of military equipment to the eastern Ladakh region.

According to the Hindustan Times story, which is based on officials who did not want to be named, there is military activity in the Ladakh region ahead of the meeting, which is expected to continue at a military level between China and India. The Indian Air Force has delivered a large amount of military equipment to eastern Ladakh, including 68,000 troops, 330 infantry fighting vehicles, 90 tanks, several artillery guns, surface-to-air guided weapons and radars.

The Indian Air Force is claimed to have transferred 9,000 tons of military equipment to the region in the past 3 years.

All 19 talks to resolve the India-China border conflict are scheduled for this month. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping are also expected to attend the meeting.

BORDER DISPUTE IN THE HIMALAYAS

The unclear border line between China and India, surrounded by the Himalayan mountains, provokes sovereignty disputes between countries. The 3,500-kilometer border, which includes streams, lakes, glaciers and snow-capped peaks, often pits the parties against each other.

While the Beijing administration claims 90,000 square kilometers of land in the Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh, which it calls “Southern Tibet,” New Delhi argues that 38,000 square kilometers of land covering China’s Aksay plateaus are occupied by China.

The parties have been unable to resolve their sovereignty disputes for many years. (AA)
