Modi revolt in France: guest of honor unacceptable

French lawmakers reacted to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s invitation, whose oppressive policies they criticized, to France’s National Day on July 14 as the “guest of honour.”

In a joint statement, the deputies of the Unbreakable France Party (LFI) in parliament affirmed that Modi’s invitation as a guest of honor in the framework of the National Holiday of July 14, which celebrates the principles of “Liberty, Equality and Fraternity ”, constitutes a contradiction and means ignoring the fundamental rights of the oppressed indigenous people, he specified.

Pointing out that Modi is the head of a political formation inspired by “fascism” and a leader who ignores the principles of liberty, equality and fraternity, the statement said: “The historic friendship between France and India, the two leaders criticized for their authoritarianism, tendencies in their countries, they came together on the National Holiday, it is incompatible with their coming”.

The statement highlighted that attacks against Muslims and Christians have increased with the collusion of police and local authorities since the Indian prime minister took over the country in 2014, noting that it is not possible to remain silent in the face of Modi’s politics. It was also stressed that it was unacceptable to make Modi the “guest of honour” on July 14, France’s National Day.
