Colombian government and armed rebel organization ELN sign ceasefire

In news from the Colombian press, it was noted that the process of processing the details of the national bilateral ceasefire agreement in the protocols continues in the ongoing meetings in Havana, the capital of Cuba.

In the news published by the EFE agency, Horacio Guerrero, one of the representatives of the Colombian government, affirmed that there has been incomparable progress in the negotiations with the ELN, which cannot be compared with previous peace negotiations.

It was shared that the meetings between the Government and the ELN are expected to end in a short time and that the joint communiqué is intended to be published.

Ongoing peace negotiations between the Colombian government and the ELN have been announced to resume on August 14, with Venezuela as the host.

On July 11, the government delegation asked the ELN to stop the kidnappings, forced recruitment of minors, laying of mines, displacements, ransoms, and road blockades.

OPERATIONS AGAINST THE SUSPENSION OF THE ELN

President Gustavo Petro, in his statement on July 6 at the Casa de Nariño Presidential Palace, affirmed that military operations against the ELN were suspended and signed the decree “National Bilateral Ceasefire Agreement.”

In its July 4 communiqué, the ELN had ordered a ceasefire for all its units until August 3, effective July 6.

In the statement, it was indicated that within the framework of the 6-month temporary ceasefire agreement signed with the Colombian government in Cuba, the organization decided to stop its actions against the army and police forces from July 6 to August 3.

The third round of negotiations, which began in Cuba between the Colombian government and the armed rebel organization ELN, ended on June 9 with the signing of the “6-month temporary ceasefire agreement.”
It was reported that the 180-day temporary ceasefire between the parties will be implemented from August 3. (AA)
