Aliyev’s Armenian statement after tripartite meeting

Aliyev spoke to reporters after his trilateral meeting in Munich with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.

Stating that the meeting was good and constructive, Aliyev stated that they negotiated many issues, including the peace agreement process between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

“PROGRESS IS BUT NOT ENOUGH”

Aliyev said that the peace agreement should be prepared on the basis of the norms and principles of international law, stating this at the meeting: “The existence of any article on the Karabakh issue is unacceptable to us. We have expressed our opinion on this matter. We received new response offers from Armenia 3 days ago to our offers. Now we examine them. At first sight, there are advances in the position of Armenia, but they are not enough”. he shared the knowledge of it.

Noting that they also talked about the protests by Azerbaijani environmentalists in the Lachin corridor, Aliyev said: “There is no blockade. More than 2,500 International Red Cross trucks and vehicles have passed through the highway since the protests began on December 12. If there was a blockade, how could these vehicles get through? We reject these baseless accusations against Azerbaijan. We rightly demand that the illegal use of our mines be stopped, and I am confident that until that happens, the protesters will not give up.” saying.

Aliyev noted that they officially proposed the establishment of bilateral checkpoints on the Armenia-Azerbaijan border, but Pashinyan did not give an answer to this issue and that Yerevan probably needs time to think about this issue.

“A SIGNIFICANT EFFECT”

Stating that this proposal was seen as logical by both European and US officials, Aliyev said: “This is, of course, an important factor in the normalization of relations between the two countries. Because if we talk about demarcation, it is not possible without control points. If we talk about the opening of roads, of course, checkpoints should be established at both ends of the Zangezur corridor and on the border between Lachin province and Armenia. I officially made this offer at today’s tripartite meeting. We will wait for a response from Armenia.” he said.

ATTACK ON THE EMBASSY OF AZERBAIJAN IN TEHRAN

Ilham Aliyev also referred to Iran-Azerbaijan relations and the attack on the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Tehran, saying: “Iran must carry out the investigation transparently, inform us and punish the terrorist. But most importantly, those who instigated this terrorist and the representatives of the Iranian organization that perpetrated this brutal event must be brought to justice. Only then will we be able to talk about the normalization of relations.” he used the phrase. (AA)
