Joint campaign for Turkey by British aid organizations
UK aid organizations have launched a joint campaign under the UK Disaster Emergency Committee (DEC) to provide aid to earthquake victims in Turkey and Syria.
According to the news collected by the Turkish BBC, when the aid donated by the public so far under the campaign reaches 5 million pounds, the British government will add 5 million more and send it to Turkey. The Scottish Government will contribute £500,000. DEC Scotland also officially launched its appeal on Thursday.
DEC announced that King Charles III and Queen Camilla made a “generous donation” to the Turkey-Syria Earthquake Call and thanked them. Prince William and Princess Kate of Wales also shared their support for the DEC call.
Donations will provide survivors with medical assistance, food, blankets and emergency aid.
Under the umbrella of DEC, there are 15 major UK charities including the British Red Cross, Save the Children UK, Islamic Relief, Christian Aid, Oxfam and ActionAid. The 15 organizations support the call for help.
Speaking to the BBC, DEC chief executive Saleh Saeed described the footage in Turkey and Syria as “heartbreaking” and encouraged people to donate in the face of this deadly disaster despite the UK’s livelihood crisis. .
