“The relationship with Israel – regardless of what is happening in terms of tensions and the new administration – is one of the most important military relationships of the United States,” Hammelburg said. “That’s why this visit had been planned for some time. There have just been US-Israel military exercises and shortly before that US Security Advisor Jake Sullivan and CIA Director William Burns were still in the country.”

According to Hammelburg, this has above all to do with military and intelligence cooperation. Especially given the situation in Iran, where a drone attack on an ammunition factory took place yesterday. However, Hammelburg does not expect the Israelis to say anything about it. “I don’t know if Blinken mentions it, but if he asks, the Israelis won’t answer. This is their principle,’ continues Hammelburg. “But I think – like everyone else – that they are really responsible for the attack.”

Convoy

An attack was also carried out yesterday evening. This time on a convoy in the border area, says Hammelburg. Executed by the Israelis. And Blinken will talk about this too, because Americans are of two minds. They’re starting to see in Iran — as in the rest of the world — that it’s one of the biggest threats out there. Also because the internal revolution risks failing».

Hammelburg points out that the Iranian regime is increasingly fanatical towards its own people and is adopting a fanatical stance in the region. “But on the other hand, the Americans still want to find a clever way to get the talks with Iran back on track,” he says. “And you can say anything about it, but the American reasoning is that it’s the only option to de-escalate the situation in Iran.”
