Auto galleries did not comply with the price restriction for second-hand vehicles

Setting the sale price of second-hand vehicles above the zero list price was prohibited until January 1, 2024. The application, which covers the listings of all natural and legal persons, began to be implemented from January 15. July 2023.

It was seen that some galleries did not comply with the application. It was seen on the website of the Turkish dealer of the vehicle, sold by the operator, who set a price of 2 million 90 thousand TL for a second-hand vehicle, which was 1 million 562 thousand TL.

THEY DID NOT FOLLOW THE RESTRICTION, THE PRICES STILL HIGH

As of July 15, 2023, the restriction to the determination of used vehicle sales prices higher than the price of new vehicles came into effect. In the statement issued by the Ministry of Commerce on July 6, 2023, it was indicated that inspections of second-hand vehicle advertisements would be increased and fines of up to 300,000 TL would be applied to those who do not comply with the restriction.

As of July 15, 2023, when the application started, it was observed that some used vehicle sellers did not comply with the restriction. In a car showroom in Kağıthane, the suggested retail price from the Turkish dealer company’s website was TL 1,562,675, and the vehicle with the same characteristics was seen to sell for TL 2,562,675. .

The owner of the vehicle said ‘nothing will go down’ on the price of the vehicle. On the other hand, those who went to the Bagcilar shopping center, where the car galleries are concentrated, to buy second-hand vehicles, stated that there was no variation in prices.

‘HE DEFINITELY DID NOT LOWER THE PRICE, ON THE CONTRARY, HE INCREASED’

Car dealer Osman Özer said: “It has not started to be implemented in any way, on the contrary, prices have started to rise more. If this is implemented, it will be better for the car dealers and the nation. It certainly did not decrease the price, on the contrary, it increased it. Even if it is implemented, some merchants are doing something among themselves, trying to somehow translate it. When the 6,000 kilometer restriction came to the new vehicle, they would get out of the vehicle and come and sell the vehicle. It didn’t have any effect, I don’t think that affected it either,” he said.

Ufuk Çelebi, who visited car dealers to purchase vehicles, stated that the restriction was not adhered to at the moment, saying, “The enforcement may have started, but the dealers don’t know about it or we don’t know about it.”

Çelebi expressed his grievances on the issue in the following words:

“Unfortunately, no one is implementing this at this time. I visited Beylikdüzü yesterday and Bağcılar today. I am looking at the zero price, 620 thousand TL, here (automatic gallery) they wrote 655 thousand TL, it is a very absurd situation. I think it needs to be reworked. The app may have started, but the gallery owners don’t know about it, or we don’t know about it.

The mechanism and controls of the state must be in place, not our complaints. I am looking for a new vehicle, we visit the galleries. New cars worth 700 thousand TL at the dealership are 750 thousand TL here. There is no car at the dealership, there is a queue, they say that you have to wait 3-4 months.

‘THIS ARE SAYING THIS JOB CANNOT CHANGE’

Stating that he wanted to buy a vehicle, Aslan Karapınar said: “We just started looking, but we haven’t seen those prices yet. There is no change in prices. We’ve been seriously looking for a few days now, but it still looks like the second hands are above zero. Sellers don’t believe in this business, they say, ‘the zeros will also go up’, that’s why they don’t take a good look at second-hand ones, they tell us that this business is not going to change,” he said.
