Sunak, who canceled the meeting, infuriated Mitsotakis.

In his written statement, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said: “I express my displeasure that the British Prime Minister canceled our scheduled meeting hours before the meeting.”

Mitsotakis stated that Greece and England have historical ties of friendship and that the framework of relations between the two countries is extremely broad.

Mitsotakis said: “Greece’s views on the Elgin Marbles are clear. I look forward to having the opportunity to discuss these and the big issues on the international agenda, such as Gaza, Ukraine, the climate crisis and migration, with my British counterpart. “A person who believes that his views are correct and fair will never be afraid of conflict of views,” he said.

In the statement issued on Saturday by the Greek Prime Minister’s Office it was announced that Mitsotakis, who will be on a three-day visit to England, will meet Sunak on Tuesday at 12:45 local time.

This afternoon, Mitsotakis met with Keir Starmer, leader of the main opposition Labor Party in England. During the meeting, relations between Greece and England were discussed, and issues such as European security, the migration issue, the climate crisis and the latest events in the Middle East were also evaluated.

DEBATE ON THE ELGIN MARBLES

The Elgin Marbles, part of the Acropolis of Athens, are in the British Museum in London. Lord Elgin, who was ambassador to Istanbul in the early 19th century, took the marbles to England with permission to examine the statues and reliefs and carry out studies.

Athens has been asking for the return of the marbles for many years.

Mitsotakis stated the other day that the Elgin Marbles should be returned to Greece. It was claimed that the Greek Prime Minister would put the issue on the agenda of his meeting with Sunak. (AA)
