NATO calls for extension of ceasefire between Hamas and Israel
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg briefed journalists ahead of the NATO Foreign Ministers’ meeting to be held at NATO headquarters in Brussels on 28-29 November.
Stating that the agreement between Hamas and Israel allowed for the release of prisoners and the delivery of humanitarian aid, Stoltenberg said: “I ask for the extension of the pause. “This will ensure the delivery of much-needed aid to the people of Gaza and the release of more hostages,” he said.
Stoltenberg stressed that a permanent political solution is needed. Recalling that NATO allies have a presence in countries such as Iraq and Syria, Stoltenberg said:
“We have seen drone and rocket attacks on US positions in Iraq and Syria, and attacks on commercial ships. This situation highlights that there is a risk of an escalation of tension. “Iran must dominate those who act in its name.” (AA)
