The real estate and housing crisis is on the rise: a 19,000 TL rental advertisement sparked reactions
A rental ad posted in Toronto, Canada’s largest city, where the real estate market has reached unattainable levels, had people saying “just get out of this”…
The ad shared on social media states that “we are looking for a comfortable and harmonious roommate.” The ad asks for 900 Canadian dollars (about 19,000 Turkish lira) per month and, in exchange for this money, you are expected to share a bed for 1.5 people with a roommate.
In addition to CAD$900, a deposit of $1,900 and $100 for keys are required. The ad, which spread quickly on TikTok and generated a huge reaction, also claims to have lake views.
“WHEN YOU THOUGHT THE REAL ESTATE MARKET COULD NOT BE WORSE…”
Estate agent Anya Ettinger said: “This situation is very bad. People have to live in those places to stay in this city. “Just when I thought the rental housing market couldn’t get any worse, I found this,” she said.
Many users on social media claimed that it is very uncomfortable for 2 people who don’t know each other to sleep in a 1.5 person bed and said: “The cost of living in the city is too high. “Most of people’s income goes to rent,” she said.
