Thousands of Turks were not allowed to enter Germany and were returned.

The border controls initiated by Germany to prevent the influx of illegal immigrants from Eastern Europe have borne fruit.

Following border controls that began on October 16, more than 5,000 illegal immigrants, the vast majority of whom were Turks or Turkish citizens, were not allowed to enter the country. It was learned that the Turks who reached the borders of Germany tried to sneak into the country through forest roads or other means because they could not cross the borders and return. It was claimed that deportation decisions were made quickly for those who entered the country.

SYRIANS AND AFGANS WERE TAKEN

Only people “who are likely to be granted asylum” were allowed entry at border controls. Most of them were Syrians and Afghans. The asylum acceptance rate for citizens of this country is approaching 90 percent. The asylum acceptance rate for Turks is around 13 percent.

THOSE FROM Türkiye WERE SPECIFICALLY SELECTED AND SEPARATED

While more than 5,000 people were prevented from entering the country between October 16 and November 20, those from Turkey, considered a “safe country”, were specifically selected and separated. Those selected were returned at the border and sent to the first member country of the European Union (EU) to which they arrived. Turks who were able to enter Germany but whose asylum was not accepted were asked to leave the country as soon as possible.

THE CONTROLS GAVE RESULTS

Of approximately 11,500 unauthorized entries, 5,000 were turned away in this way, while 266 human traffickers were captured. 670 wanted people were arrested. 394 home, body and vehicle searches were carried out. 329 drug traffickers were captured and action was taken against nearly 250 people carrying weapons and dangerous goods.

“IT SHOULD HAVE STARTED EARLIER”

The German Police Association praised the police’s success in the rollout, but said it was a big mistake not to start checks earlier.

The coup d’état against human traffickers, illegal immigration and various criminal organizations in one month generated criticism that these practices had not started sooner.
