The written statement of the Russian Foreign Ministry states that the process of Russia’s withdrawal from the European Treaty on Conventional Forces (CFE) has been completed.
The statement notes that other agreements related to this treaty have also expired and highlights that Russia suspended the treaty in 2007 due to the “destructive position of the United States and its allies.” The statement stated the following:

“Attempts to ensure military security in Europe without taking into account the interests of Russia will not lead to good results. Attempts to adhere to old agreements that do not adapt to new conditions are also doomed to failure and can lead to the collapse of cooperation mechanisms in the field of arms control. The authorities of NATO members and countries under the influence of the alliance have shown that they have no negotiating capacity. “At this moment it is not possible to reach any agreement with them in the area of arms control.”

The CFE, which imposes restrictions on the parties’ conventional forces, was signed in Paris in 1990 between NATO and the Warsaw Pact countries, including the Soviet Union.
