Surprise US visit to Lebanon
Amos Hochstein, US President Joe Biden’s Senior Energy and Infrastructure Advisor, made a surprise visit to Lebanon and met with Parliament Speaker Nebih Berri and Prime Minister Necib Mikati.
Speaking to reporters after the meetings, Hochstein emphasized that the United States is going through a difficult process in Lebanon and that it cares about the Lebanese government and people in this process.
Hochstein expressed his condolences for the civilians who lost their lives in Israel’s airstrikes against Lebanon and said he heard Berri and Mikati’s views on the events.
Regarding the US attitude, Hochstein said: “The US stated that they do not want what happened in Gaza to spread to Lebanon.” he said.
Hochstein emphasized that United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701, which aims to ensure security and stability on the Israeli border in southern Lebanon, must be fully implemented. (AA)
