3 million displaced children in Sudan
UNICEF made a written statement on the 200th day of the conflict between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (HDK).
The statement stressed that the international community and the parties to the conflict must increase their efforts and seek solutions to the problems of “millions of children and families who live nightmares every day.”
“THE BIGGEST CRISIS”
Noting that children pay the highest price, the statement said: “Sudan is currently the scene of the world’s largest displacement crisis. “3 million children in Sudan have been displaced in search of safety, food, medical care and shelter.” Information was shared.
The statement also states that 14 million children are in urgent need of humanitarian aid.
“We cannot allow the suffering and death of millions of children in Sudan to become another forgotten humanitarian disaster.” The statement highlighted that children need the support of the international community and peace.
CONFLICTS BETWEEN THE ARMY AND HDK IN SUDAN
Clashes broke out between the army and HDK in the East African country of Sudan on April 15.
According to the Sudanese Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), in the conflicts that began on April 15 and continued with all their violence, approximately 10 thousand people lost their lives, 25 million Sudanese needed humanitarian aid and 5.4 million people had to leave their homes.
The president of the Sudanese Sovereignty Council and commander of the army, General Abdulfettah al-Burhan, decided on September 6 to eliminate the HDK paramilitary, alleging that it rebelled against the state, committed serious violations against citizens and deliberately sabotaged the country’s infrastructure.
Burhan had asked the international community to accept the HDK, which has been in conflict with the army since mid-April, as a “terrorist group”.
Regional and international ceasefire and negotiation initiatives have so far failed due to mutual accusations of violations by the parties and a lack of agreement on proposed terms.
The Sudanese military withdrew from talks in Jeddah in July, citing repeated violations by the HDK for failing to evacuate civilian settlements and public facilities in the capital, Khartoum. (AA)
