UN Secretary General Guterres: I am shocked
United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Guterres said in his statement: “I am horrified by the news of the attack on an ambulance convoy outside the Sifa hospital in Gaza. “The images of the bodies lying in the street in front of the hospital are heartbreaking,” he said.
“MUST STOP NOW”
Noting that civilians, including children and women, have been surrounded and killed in Gaza for about a month, their homes bombed and aid blocked, Guterres said: “This must end now.”
The UN Secretary General reiterated his call for a humanitarian ceasefire, stressing that the humanitarian situation in Gaza is “terrible”, that the entire population is traumatized and that no place is safe.
Reiterating that international humanitarian law must be respected, Guterres noted that populated countries must make efforts to ensure compliance with the laws of war and prevent the conflict from spreading to the entire region.
