The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) today voted on the draft resolution prepared by Brazil, which calls for the entry of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip.

There were 12 “yes” votes, 2 “abstentions” and 1 “no” votes.

In the 15-member UNSC, Russia and the United Kingdom abstained from voting on the bill, to which the United States, one of the permanent members, voted “no.”

The United States Permanent Representative to the UN, Linda Thomas-Greenfield, explained her country’s veto decision with the following statement: “The United States was disappointed that Israel’s right to self-defense was not mentioned in the draft resolution. “.

Thomas-Greenfield said Hamas’s own actions caused the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

“The hypocrisy of the United States”

Russia’s Permanent Representative Vassily Nebenzia, whose proposed changes to the draft resolution were not accepted, said: “Delegations that do not accept the condemnation of civilians do not want the bloodshed in the Middle East to stop.”

Nebenzia said: “We have witnessed once again the hypocrisy of our American friends. UNSC“They showed that they did not want a solution by vetoing the bill,” he said.

The draft resolution called for a “pause in hostilities” to allow UN and humanitarian partners access to Gaza. The bill condemned Hamas’ “terrorist attacks” and also condemned all forms of violence against civilians.

Hamas’s armed wing, the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, launched a comprehensive attack against Israel on the morning of October 7, dubbed the “Aqsa Flood.”

As thousands of rockets were fired from Gaza into Israel, Palestinian armed groups attacked and seized the Beit Hanun-Erez border gate on the Gaza-Israel border.

Armed groups then entered settlements inside Israel from here and the Israeli army launched an attack on the Gaza Strip with dozens of fighter jets.

It was reported that 1,405 Israelis, including 304 soldiers, were killed and 3,968 Israelis were wounded in the attacks carried out from Gaza.

The Palestinian Ministry of Health announced that 3,478 people were killed and more than 12,000 injured in Gaza due to Israeli attacks. 13 journalists lost their lives in Israeli attacks.

Finally, in Israel’s attack on Al-Ehli Baptist Hospital in Gaza on October 17, 471 people were killed and 342 were injured, 28 of them seriously. (AA-REUTERS)
