Harsh police intervention in the Palestinian march in Paris
A demonstration in support of Palestine was held in Paris despite the police department’s ban. The demonstration began around 3:00 p.m. local time in the capital’s famous Republic Square. When the demonstration began, the police evacuated the square and attempted to disperse the demonstration.
The protesters, including disabled citizens and many women, continued their protests on the side street near the square.
The police formed a circle around the protesters and did not allow them to leave their place.
Holding banners reading “Stop the genocide” and “Palestine will remain free,” protesters shouted slogans: “Israel murderer, accomplice (French President) Macron,” “Palestine will prevail,” “Stop the genocide” and “Gaza, we are all with you”.
The police intervened harshly against the protesters, especially against those who carried Palestinian flags in their hands and wore scarves known as Palestinian keffiyeh around their necks, which is part of Palestinian culture.
The police grabbed a protester by the neck and legs and removed him from the area where the protesters were.
The protesters protested the intervention of the security forces with whistles. Police used pepper spray against protesters.
As protesters continued their demonstration by holding sit-ins for a time, a large Palestinian flag was hung on the top floor of a building near the square.
According to data announced by the Paris Police Department, 260 of the 269 people who were subjected to identity checks at the demonstration were fined. (AA)
