Iran’s Nobel reaction: they use the prize as a political tool

Iran condemned the award of the 2023 Nobel Peace Prize to Nargis Mohammadi, imprisoned for “national security crimes”, calling it a “biased political measure.”

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kenani said in his written statement: “We see that the Nobel Peace Committee awarded the Peace Prize to a person who was convicted of repeatedly violating the law and committing crimes. “We accept and condemn this action as a political and partial measure,” he said.

Criticizing the Nobel Committee for making “false claims” against Iran, Kenani noted that this was “indicative of the approach of some European governments to distort information and produce confusing and falsified narratives about internal developments in Iran.”

Arguing that the prize is a “political tool” for some Western countries, Kenani said: “We recommend that the Nobel Peace Committee award this prize to individuals or organizations that sincerely attempt to promote the culture of peace and justice in the international arena.” .

The Norwegian Nobel Committee announced yesterday that the 2023 Nobel Peace Prize has been awarded to imprisoned Iranian activist Nergis Muhammedi. The committee announced that Muhammadi was considered worthy of the award “for her fight for oppressed women” in Iran.

Nergis Muhammedi, who is prominent as an activist in Iran, is known for her work on human rights. Mohammedi, convicted by the Iranian justice system for crimes such as “acting against national security and propaganda against the regime”, has been in prison in Tehran since November 2021.
