EU foreign ministers meet in kyiv
The foreign ministers of the European Union (EU) met for the first time in kyiv, the capital of Ukraine.
The High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, in his statement on the social network
Borrell shared the message: “The future of Ukraine is in the EU.” Borrell, who held a joint press conference with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitro Kuleba at the entrance to the informal meeting, stated that the ministers would discuss the latest situation surrounding the war and the support given to Ukraine.
Borrell emphasized that ministers from all member countries met in kyiv and showed their determination to support Ukraine.
In response to a journalist’s question about the absence of a new military aid package for Ukraine in the US interim budget draft, Borrell said: “This war has profound consequences for the entire world. “It may not seem that way to everyone, but for us Europeans this war is an existential threat,” he said. Borrell stated that he saw that the US officials he met with also wanted to continue supporting him, and said he was confident that this decision would be re-evaluated.
The High Representative announced that the next ministerial meeting would be held in kyiv on 19 September, but did not give details for security reasons. (AA)
