Single-use plastic forks, knives and plates are prohibited.
The British government is preparing to ban single-use plastic products to reduce environmental pollution. However, this practice will not cover plastic products used in supermarkets or takeaway services.
Companies that continue to supply banned single-use plastics after October 1 may be fined and subject to inspection by local authorities.
A similar ban was previously implemented in Scotland. Scotland banned single-use plastic products for businesses in June 2022.
In England, disposable plastic straws, stirrers and cotton swabs with plastic handles were banned in 2020.
In the UK, data shows that around 1.1 billion single-use plastic plates and 4.25 billion cutlery are used each year, and only 10 per cent of these are recycled after use.
The European Union (EU) has introduced new regulations in recent years to reduce the amount of plastic waste and banned plastics such as disposable plates, forks, cups and straws in 2021. (BRITISH AUTOMOBILE CLUB)
