Request for salary increase for retired officials

Retired Memur-Sen members of the Memur-Sen Confederation in Ankara made a statement demanding that the progressive increase granted to civil servants be reflected on retired civil servants and that civil servants’ salaries be increased without waiting for January.

About 50 retired Memur-Sen members made a press statement in front of the Victory Monument in the Ulus district of Altındağ.

The group carried a banner that said “Our demand from the government is not great, retirees are not a burden on the State” and chanted slogans such as “Years of work should not be ignored” and “We want law and status.”

Retired Memur-Sen President Ali Küçükkösen made a statement on behalf of the group. Affirming that retirement is not a cost to the state, Küçükkösen said: “We are fighting economic difficulties and spend our days wondering how we will make ends meet. It is our most natural right to spend the rest of our lives carefree and happy, earning a wage worthy of human dignity. Recently implemented restrictive policies, financial discipline provisions and other practices especially apply to retirees. In the current situation, the purchasing power of retired public servants has decreased and their financial losses have increased. “As pension increases were postponed, the loss of retirees increased,” he said.

Küçükkösen stated that the priority of the Parliament that will be inaugurated on October 1 should be retirees: “Our expectation is that the remuneration payments made to public officials will be reflected in retirees, the gap between employees and retirees will be reduced and the problems are resolved. “The problems of retirees must be resolved and their financial worries must end without waiting for January,” he said.
