Migrants trapped in the truck were rescued with the help of the journalist
Six irregular migrants traveling in a refrigerated truck traveling through France were rescued after a BBC journalist reported the situation to the authorities.
According to Le Parisien, security forces stopped 50 kilometers north of Lyon a refrigerated transport truck with Lithuanian license plates carrying irregular immigrants.
The authorities reported that the driver and 6 women of the truck, 4 Vietnamese and 2 Iraqis, were detained and an investigation into the incident was launched.
BBC reporter Khue B. Luu’s reporting of the situation to authorities was effective in finding the refrigerated transport truck and rescuing the migrants. Luu, who followed the case of the death of 39 Vietnamese immigrants in the bed of a truck in England in 2019, said that one of the people he met at the time called him and shared the information that there were 6 people in a truck of removals they wanted to cross from France to England.
Luu stated that after the phone call he was unable to obtain any information about the direction in which the truck was moving, its license plate and the country in which it was registered, but he learned that it was in France.
Stating that one of the women in the truck later contacted him, Luu noted that the women had been traveling in the refrigerated truck for more than 10 hours and that when the truck left its destination route, they panicked and told him. They asked for help. (AA)
