The video of the commander who was supposedly murdered generated controversy

The Russian Defense Ministry released a video of Black Sea Fleet commander Admiral Viktor Sokolov, who Ukraine says was killed.

In the video, Sokolov is seen in a video conference with Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu and several other top admirals and army commanders. While Russia tried to avoid accusations of “death” by arguing that the meeting took place on Tuesday, some sources claimed that the video was old.

On the other hand, it was striking that Sokolov did not speak in the 8-minute video.

Sokolov is one of the most important figures in the Russian army.

Ukraine claimed Sokolov was killed along with 33 other officers in a missile attack on the headquarters of the Russian Black Sea Fleet in the Crimean port of Sevastopol last week.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov declined to comment on the Ukrainians’ claim and told reporters to contact the ministry.

In response to the Russian video, Ukrainian Special Forces said: “Our troops are clarifying the information after the Russians were forced to issue an urgent response, stating that Sokolov is alive.”
