They took Amazon to court

The United States filed a lawsuit against Amazon

The US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) filed the long-awaited antitrust lawsuit against Amazon and asked the court to consider the issue of forcing the company to sell its assets.

The government accuses Amazon of monopolizing the most lucrative areas of the Internet.

The FTC accuses Amazon, which was founded in 1994 and is now worth $1.3 trillion, of trying to block sellers who try to offer more affordable products on other platforms in its online marketplace.

In the FTC statement, it was claimed that Amazon inflated costs for both consumers and sellers by forcing them to use its own warehouses and delivery services.

According to the FTC, which stated that Amazon is a monopoly and abuses the opportunities it has, one seller said, “We have nowhere else to go and Amazon knows it.”

COMPLAINTS HAVE INCREASED

The lawsuit was expected to be filed against the company after years of complaints that Amazon.com and other major technology companies were abusing their dominance in Internet search, social media and online retail.

While the need to take action against Big Tech is one of the few issues on which Republicans and Democrats agree, the FTC chairman is particularly interested in Amazon’s influence.

The FTC stated that it asked the court to issue a permanent injunction to ensure that Amazon stops its illegal actions. The lawsuit was filed in federal court in Seattle, where Amazon is headquartered.

The FTC’s complaint to the court said: “Amazon will continue to engage in illegal behavior to maintain its monopoly power unless it is controlled.” (REUTERS)
