Difficult operation in the flood: the family on the roof was rescued by helicopter
While the tropical cyclone, which hit southern Brazil, killed at least 22 people, images of a rescue operation created great excitement in the country.
The regional governor, Eduardo Leite, affirmed that they declared a state of emergency in more than 20 towns and that 15,000 people were evacuated, and that the transition from hurricanes caused floods and landslides. Pointing out that an unprecedented disaster occurred in the provinces of Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina, on the border between Argentina and Uruguay, Leite emphasized that the rivers overflowed due to strong winds and floods, and said that the work of search and rescue are difficult.
“We will make every possible effort to help the people,” Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva said.
TEAMS COMPETING WITH TIME
In the images reflected on social networks, it was possible to see that citizens whose houses were under water were waiting for help by climbing on the roofs. The moments of the helicopter rescue of a family that climbed to the roof in the disaster that left thousands of people homeless broke records in the country.
After the river rose in the Roca Sales region, the water rose to the roofs of the houses and the police rescued the family, who had moments of fear, descending from the helicopters with a rope.
The race was watched minute by minute by the Brazilians as the waters continued to rise during the police operation that rescued a child for the first time.
BROKEN THREAD, TWO PEOPLE FLY IN THE RIVER
After the child, the police descended to the roof with a rope hung from the helicopter and rescued the adults and an elderly man one by one. The mother of the family, Jaquisele dos Santos, expressed her fear: “We would not have thought that we would experience something like this. “People were waiting for help on the rooftops,” she said.
Another helicopter rescue operation resulted in death. A policeman and an elderly woman fell into the river when the rope hanging from the helicopter broke.
Although the woman died, the policeman was seriously injured. (AGENCIES)
