Biden announces candidate for Israeli embassy
The White House issued a written statement on Biden’s nominee for the Israeli Embassy. Consequently, Jacob J. Lew was nominated for the Israeli Embassy.
The statement noted that Lew, who served as Treasury Secretary under former US President Barack Obama, held many government staff positions.
The statement states that Lew is currently the managing partner of Lindsay Goldberg LLC and that the candidate is also a visiting professor at Columbia University.
In the statement, it was shared that Lew completed his undergraduate education at Harvard University and his law education at Georgetown University.
Lew, whom Biden appointed ambassador to Israel, is also reported to be co-chair of the US-Israel National Library.
SENATE APPROVAL REQUIRED
Lew’s appointment requires the approval of the US Senate. If approved, Lew will succeed former Israeli ambassador Tom Nides, who left Israel in July.
Lew, 67, an Orthodox Jew, also speaks Hebrew. Lew is known for his close ties to the Jewish community in the United States. (AA)
