Erdogan’s fiscal gesture towards the United Arab Emirates

Tariff quotas have been set for agricultural products to be imported from the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The Presidential Decree on the subject entered into force after being published in the Official Gazette.

Customs duties will not be charged for imports made under the tariff quota. For imports other than this, the customs duty determined for said substances will be applied.

According to the list of the Official Gazette, many products coming from the United Arab Emirates, from chicken to eggs, from vegetables to legumes, from oils to milk, will not be subject to a certain amount of tax.

SIGNING OF THE COMPREHENSIVE ECONOMIC PARTNERSHIP AGREEMENT

It included the decision on the ‘Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement between the Republic of Turkey and the United Arab Emirates’ signed in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates, on March 3, 2023, and the approval of the notes to amend the deal. in the first duplicate copy of the Official Gazette of April 27, 2023.

The resolution stated that the objective was to liberalize and facilitate trade and investment between the parties in accordance with the provisions of the agreement.

Under the agreement, it was stated that the parties would strengthen their cooperation in the field of standards, technical regulations and conformity assessment procedures established in the agreement.

It was also emphasized that the parties would encourage cooperation between relevant bodies responsible for standardization, conformity assessment, accreditation and metrology in order to facilitate trade and avoid unnecessary barriers to trade between the parties.

On the other hand, the agreement also created a joint committee made up of representatives of Turkey and the United Arab Emirates.
