The ‘love scam’ confused the country! Dozens of people are detained…
Indonesian authorities announced that 88 suspects, including five women, were detained on Batam Island following a notice from the Chinese Ministry of Security.
Police spokesman Zahwani Pandra Arsyad said they believe the suspects are members of a community of phone and online love scams.
Arsyad claimed that most of these people’s targets were the Chinese, whom they tricked into transferring money after manipulating their “human feelings”.
Stating that the suspects have been coming to Indonesia from China for three months using tourist visas since January, Arsyad said that these people committed the crimes in Indonesia after China collapsed their networks.
As part of the preliminary investigation, it was claimed that it was revealed that the community has been operating since the beginning of the year and has trapped hundreds of victims in China, but it is unclear how much money they have raised.
It was stated that the investigation is continuing and that the detainees are scheduled to be deported from Indonesia.
The Indonesian police were noted to be in close cooperation with the Chinese immigration authorities and the Ministry of Public Security regarding the suspects. (AA)
