Gas station explosions in a row: there are dead and injured
The explosions occurred at a gas station in the town of Crevedia, northwest of the capital, Bucharest.
Romanian media announced that one person was killed and 58 injured in the explosions. It was reported that the condition of some of the injured, who had burns on their bodies, was serious.
“INVESTIGATION INITIATED”
Romanian President Iohannis announced on his social media account that an investigation into the incident has been launched.
Iohannis said: “A new tragedy has gripped Romania this afternoon and I am deeply saddened by those who lost their lives and were injured in the explosions in Crevedia. Our highest priority at this time is to provide all the necessary support to those affected and facilitate their access to emergency treatment. “As soon as the situation in the region stabilizes, an investigation should be promptly launched to determine whether laws and regulations have been violated,” he said.
EU CIVIL DEFENSE MECHANISM INSTALLED
The Romanian Prime Minister, Marcel Ciolacu, affirmed that the Civil Defense Mechanism of the European Union (EU) has intervened and that the transfer of four wounded, whose condition is serious, to hospitals in Europe has begun.
“The EU Civil Defense Mechanism has been activated and the 4 injured will be rushed to hospitals in Europe after their doctors stabilize their condition,” Ciolacu said in his statement.
Ciolacu also visited the Floreasca hospital in Bucharest and stated that he had received information from the doctors on the condition of the wounded.
“I went to the Floreasca Hospital to see the condition of the patients injured in the explosions in Crevedia,” Ciolacu said. Our priority right now is saving people’s lives. For this reason, the first patients will be transferred to the military hospital in Brussels”.
