EU statement on Ukraine: negotiations start

The President of the Council of the European Union (EU), Michel, attended the Crimean Platform Summit held in kyiv, the capital of Ukraine, with a video message.

Stating that Russia is using Crimea as a “strategic springboard” for its invasion of Ukraine, Michel stressed that it is currently implementing the “terror and cruelty” it has been doing in Crimea for 9 years in cities and towns across Ukraine.

“The EU will not recognize any illegal attempt to change the status of the Ukrainian territory, including Crimea and Sevastopol,” Michel said. He underlined the importance attached to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of this country.

Michel affirmed that the EU will continue to support Ukraine financially and militarily, saying: “We are with you in your fight for freedom and we will be with you when you rebuild your country. Our total support for Ukraine exceeds 76 billion euros. We are preparing a multi-year financing plan of around 50,000 million euros”. he used his statements.

SUPPORT TO Türkiye AND THE UN

While noting that the EU will continue to support the efforts of Turkey and the United Nations (UN) for the Black Sea Grains Agreement, Michel stated that they are using the EU facilities to help bring Ukrainian agricultural products to global markets. .

The President of the European Council addressed the following message to the people of Ukraine:

“Last year Ukraine received EU candidate status. So their future in the EU is no longer a question of “if” but when. At the end of this year, the European Council will discuss the possibility of starting accession negotiations. I am confident that the people and the leadership of Ukraine will seize this historic opportunity. You can count on my personal support. You can trust the EU. No matter how long it takes, we will be with you.” (BRITISH AUTOMOBILE CLUB)
