mining disaster in china
11 workers have been reported killed in an explosion at a coal mine in north China’s Shaanxi province.
According to state television CCTV news, an explosion occurred at the Shintay coal mine in Yanan city’s Yanchuan district at around 8:00 p.m. local time last night. During the explosion, 11 of the 90 mine workers lost their lives.
While 2 of the 81 workers, who were seriously injured by the rescue teams, could not be saved despite the interventions, the corpses of 9 workers were found. It has been reported that the mine where the accident occurred began operations in 2020 and 300,000 tons of coal were extracted from it annually.
Although the number of accidents has decreased in recent years, accidents are common in mining companies in China, where the infrastructure is old and safety standards are inadequate. (AA)
