Fire nightmare: Dozens of people stranded on train
In France, passengers were reportedly trapped in carriages for hours overnight because a train on the Nantes-Paris line was unable to move due to a fire en route.
According to national press reports, a fire broke out last night at the Trelaze premises, in the Angers region, on the route of the train that will transport passengers from Nantes to Paris. Some 80 passengers on the train, which was delayed for about 11 hours due to the fire, were trapped in the carriages during this time.
Speaking to France Bleu, one of the passengers on the train said that the authorities informed the passengers that the train would leave after a while and that they found out that the train would not be able to move after waiting for about 1 hour. Another passenger said that the railway company was not willing to pay the passengers’ taxi and hotel expenses due to the crowded train.
The same passenger said that about 80 passengers who could not afford it had to spend the night in carriages. The train, which was scheduled to make its journey at 6:30 p.m. local time yesterday evening, departed around 5:00 a.m. with the opening of the route. (AA)
