“Russia is building a new army in Ukraine”
The British Defense Ministry stated in its intelligence report that the Russian troops operating in Crimea and Kherson will be merged and a new army will be established.
“Russia is expanding its military structure,” the report says. This new formation will likely be the 18th United Arms Army (18 CAA). Other troops currently operating in the Kherson region are likely to be merged, including the 22nd Corps, which constitutes Russia’s garrison in occupied Crimea.
‘FOCUS ON DEFENSE’
In the report, it was stated that the planned 18 CAAs are likely to focus on defense operations in southern Ukraine, adding that “18 CAAs are likely to consist of mostly mobilized personnel and focus on defensive security operations.” in the south of Ukraine. “Russia is probably aiming to free up more experienced troops to fight in key axes,” he said.
