Life has become hell in the Canary Islands! Cause of fire revealed
In a press release, the governor of Tenerife, Rosa Dávila, stated that the night was very difficult, but the results were positive thanks to the work of the firefighters.
Expressing that until yesterday more than 8 thousand hectares of forests were burned, Dávila pointed out that today that figure will be higher.
Dávila updated the number of evacuees to 12,000, which he had previously announced at 26,000.
The Canary Islands Emergency Services shared on the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, that the firefighters were able to work more comfortably in better weather conditions than anticipated.
TRYING TO GET UNDER CONTROL
The cooler night air has helped firefighters make gains in controlling the fire over the past 5 days, officials said.
“WEAR A MASK”
Noting that air quality is not good in 19 towns under threat of fire, authorities urged the public to stay home as much as possible and to wear masks when going out.
It is noted that more than 400 firefighters and soldiers, as well as 23 helicopters and planes, were sent to the area of the fire as part of the work.
According to the European Forest Fire Information System (EFFIS), Spain, with an area of 75,000 hectares, heads the list of EU countries affected by forest fires this year, ahead of Italy and Greece.
THE RESULT OF ARADING REVEALED
According to El Mundo, the president of the Autonomous Administration of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, has pointed out that the teams of the “Civil Guard”, a military body in charge of maintaining order in rural areas under the responsibility of the Spanish Police Forces, have pointed out that the forest fire that started on the Arafo mountain on the island of Tenerife on August 15 was “incendiary”. He announced that he has confirmed that he is dating.
“We knew from the beginning that it was an arson attack, and yesterday it was confirmed.” Clavijo has said that the Civil Guard continues with three investigations on the subject.
Noting that local authorities should not interfere in the investigation, Clavijo said the Civil Guard should be allowed to continue their work to arrest those responsible, who “put the lives and property of thousands of people in danger.”
It was reported that 26 thousand people were evicted.
Canary Islands Minister Candelaria Delgado told local broadcaster RTVC yesterday that a total of 26,000 people had been evacuated due to the fires in Tenerife.
As the fire caused severe damage to a canal that carries water to towns in the north of the island, water cuts were experienced in some regions and people were called to “use water sparingly.” (AA)
