The reaction grows like an avalanche: 100 thousand people took to the streets
Israelis, who hold massive demonstrations every Saturday night against the right-wing policies and judicial regulation of the far-right coalition government led by Netanyahu, were back in squares across the country in the 33rd week of protests.
Tens of thousands of Israelis participated in demonstrations in dozens of different parts of the country, especially in cities like Tel Aviv, West Jerusalem, Haifa and Herzliya.
MORE THAN 100 THOUSAND PEOPLE ATTENDED
Protesters gathered in front of the Government Complex on Kaplan Street in Tel Aviv, which hosts the largest demonstration, as it does every week.
According to Israel’s Channel 13 television, 101,000 people attended the show in Tel Aviv.
Protesters in the square observed a minute’s silence for two Israeli settlers who were killed in an armed attack in the occupied West Bank today.
motto DEMOCRACY
Israeli singer Netta Barzilai sang the Israeli national anthem at the show. Demonstrators carrying Israeli flags chanted “democracy” slogans with drums, whistles and air horns.
The protesters, who each week unfurled a giant banner with a main slogan on Kaplan Street, this week carried a banner that read “Sit in the back.”
“You sit in the back.” Her verbal warning had been controversial.
THE ROAD IS CLOSED TO TRAFFIC
Dozens of protesters blocked Tel Aviv’s main artery, the Ayalon Highway. The road was reopened after being closed for a short time.
In West Jerusalem, protesters gathered in front of the residence of the Israeli president.
OPPOSITION LEADER: THIS GOVERNMENT WILL FALL AND THERE WILL BE ELECTIONS
Opposition leader Yair Lapid also joined the protests in the Krayot region in the north of the country.
Former Prime Minister and leader of the Future There (Yes Atid) party Lapid said in a statement on the X social media platform, formerly known as Twitter, that he would not form a unity government with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
“This government can’t do business and must go home,” Lapid said. This is our plan. We do not believe in miracles that will not happen. We will not bet on a fraudulent union government that breaks our moral column. This government will fall and we will go to elections”. he used his statements.
DISCUSSION JURISDICTION
The “judicial reform” announced by Israeli Justice Minister Yariv Levin on January 5 includes changes such as limiting the powers of the Supreme Court and the power to have a say in judicial appointments.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced on March 27 that he would postpone judicial regulation, sparking mass protests and escalating strikes across the country, but announced that he would put judicial regulation back on the agenda after the 2023 budget- 2024 was approved by Parliament at the end of May.
The government had recently pushed the button for judicial regulation again after negotiations with the opposition stalled.
The Netanyahu government adopted the bill that would lift the control of the Supreme Court over the government, in a parliamentary session on July 24, which was boycotted by the opposition, despite mass protests and intense public debate throughout the country.
Oppose government “judicial reform”; Thousands of Israelis, including fighter pilots, submarine officers and other elite troops, had decided to leave their volunteer reservists.
The Supreme Court announced that the government will discuss the two laws passed by parliament in the judicial regulations in September.
Names who held high positions in Israel’s politics, military, security, economy and judiciary declared that they were against the government’s judicial regulation.
The Netanyahu government’s protest movement against judicial regulation has continued its demonstrations for about 8 months. (AA)
