Body parts of 13 people found in two houses

Prosecutors from the Mexican state of Veracruz indicated that parts of the bodies of 13 people were found in the freezers of two houses, which would have been used by kidnapping gangs, according to initial determinations.

“Unfortunately, it may have belonged to more than 13 people,” Attorney General Verónica Hernández said of the body parts found during the raid. Hernández pointed out that the number may increase after the identification process.

Although the authorities reported that 6 people were arrested in connection with the incident, the investigation continues.

Veracruz Governor Cuitláhuac García said the killings may have been caused by disagreements between rival gangs.

Garcia noted that the gang warfare involved the kidnapping and potentially murder of the children of rival gang members, but did not directly link this to the frozen body parts found.

Kidnapping gangs in Mexico are known to often bury the bodies of their victims in graves in hard-to-find places without leaving any traces. More than 110,000 people in the country are listed as “disappeared” in the records. (AA)
