Chaos is growing in Israel! Herzog called it ‘an emergency’

According to the statement of the Israeli presidency, President Isaac Herzog met with Netanyahu in the evening. “This is an emergency,” Herzog said. We have to come to an agreement.” he used the phrase.

It has been announced that Herzog will meet with Yair Lapid, chairman of the main opposition leader, There is a Future, in the next few hours.

OFFER OF CONCILIATION OF THE UNION OF WORKERS

Israel’s largest union, Histadrut, announced over the weekend that a reconciliation proposal was made to Netanyahu over judicial regulation.

Histadrut president Arnon Bar-David said in March that they will not “call a general strike” as they did when the government suspended judicial regulation.

In the Histadrut proposal, he proposed to “soften” the bill that would lift the control of the Supreme Court over the government and was scheduled to be brought to the General Assembly on Monday.

In addition, it was proposed that the government’s judicial regulation package bills be frozen for 18 months and brought to parliament with a broader consensus, which would be accepted by 75 deputies in the 120-seat parliament.

Netanyahu’s Likud party said in a statement that it rejected the offer, saying the union’s proposal “means concessions throughout the process.” The Likud Party noted that they made “all possible efforts for real reconciliation.”

The main opposition leader, Lapid, said he welcomes the Histadrut offer. The leader of the Workers’ Party, Merav Michaeli, rejected the union’s proposal on the grounds that the bill to be voted on in Parliament “opens the way to corruption.”

The protest movement against the Netanyahu government also announced that they “demand the complete file of the coalition judicial regulation package.”

Netanyahu’s coalition is preparing to take the bill that will remove Supreme Court control over the government within the realm of judicial regulation to the General Assembly of Parliament tomorrow for the second and third ballots.

Tens of thousands of Israelis protest outside the Israel Assembly in West Jerusalem against the judicial regulation of the Netanyahu government.

On the other hand, right-wing and far-right groups that support government regulation of the judiciary are demonstrating their support for the ruling coalition on Kaplan Street in Tel Aviv.

THE CALL FOR A STRIKE GROWS

Groups opposing the government’s judicial regulation have been meeting in Sacher Park, located near the Israel Assembly in West Jerusalem, since morning.

Since afternoon, tens of thousands of people have continued their demonstrations in front of the Israel Assembly against the judicial regulation of the Netanyahu government.

Thousands of health workers in Israel also protested the judicial regulation. Health workers gathered at the Israel Convention Center in West Jerusalem called for a strike against the government’s judicial regulation.

Israel Medical Association President Zion Hagay, in his speech here, said that if Parliament passes the bill that will lift Supreme Court control over the government, it will go before the Supreme Court to appeal the law.

THE JUDICIAL REGULATION THAT MIXED THE COUNTRY

The “judicial reform” announced by Israeli Justice Minister Yariv Levin on January 5 includes changes such as limiting the powers of the Supreme Court and the power to have a say in judicial appointments.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced on March 27 that he would postpone judicial regulation, sparking an increase in mass protests and strikes across the country, but announced that he would put judicial regulation back on the agenda after Parliament approved the 2023-2024 budget in late May.

The government had recently pushed the button for judicial regulation again after negotiations with the opposition stalled.

The Netanyahu government announced that the bill that will remove Supreme Court control over the government in the realm of judicial regulation, after the first vote on July 11, will be brought to Parliament on July 24 for the second and third votes.

Thousands of Israelis, including fighter pilots, submarine officers and other elite troops, who opposed the government’s “judicial reform”, had decided to resign as volunteers.

The Israeli press claimed that Defense Minister Gallant was working to delay a bill that would lift Supreme Court control over the government following the reaction of reserve soldiers in the army.

Senior personalities from Israel’s politics, military, security, economy and judiciary spoke out against the government’s judicial regulation.

The Netanyahu government’s protest movement against judicial regulation has continued its demonstrations for about 7 months. (AA)
