Reactions to the most right-wing government in the country grow: CEOs were arrested

Reactions to the “judicial reform” proposed by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who led the most right-wing government in Israel’s history, are mounting.

The biggest action in the country’s history took place yesterday, after the Israeli government announced that judicial reform, which was brought to the agenda in January but delayed by Netanyahu on March 27, will be back on the agenda after the 2023-2024 budget is approved.

Yesterday, thousands of Israelis took to the streets to protest Netanyahu’s footsteps… While shouting slogans against the government and Netanyahu during the march from Tel-Aviv to Jerusalem, they demanded the abandonment of judicial reform.

It was announced that many CEOs and high-level names also participated in the actions.

Speaking to Bloomberg, one of the reputed media organizations in the US, some sources announced that many people, including CEOs of multi-billion dollar companies, have been detained.

While unnamed sources reported that the country’s top white-collar and opinion leaders also participated in the protests and were detained, Shikma Bressler, one of the protest organizers, said: “The people who form the backbone of Israeli society, those who start companies and those who run large institutions are here. Some even took part in a special military operation,” she said. Bressler also commented: “Founders and CEOs of multi-billion dollar start-ups were arrested on the street.”

The people took to the streets yesterday against the judicial reform of the most right-wing government in the history of Israel.

It was also reported that slogans were shouted and drone photos were taken at the action, in which approximately 800,000 people and 270 different organizations and associations participated.

CURRENCY LOSES VALUE

In Bloomberg news, it was reported that Netanyahu’s controversial judicial reform has also unsettled global investors. It was recalled that the Israeli stock market, bonds and currency have performed worse than other countries in a similar situation recently.

It was claimed that there were high-level names behind the think tank of the group that supported the actions. It was claimed that behind the actions that made a name for themselves with donations, names like Eran Schwartz, former undersecretary and now CEO, Daria Shaked Henig, the famous PR expert who introduced Israeli brands to Silicon Valley, former chiefs of staff Dan Halutz and Moşe Yaalon.

Names like Gilead Sher and Yossi Kucik, who worked with former Prime Ministers Ehud Barak, were also claimed to have participated in the protests, while many names who supported the initiatives such as Orni Petrushka and Zohar Levkovitz were stressed to have participated in the protests.

The activists marched from Tel-Aviv to Jerusalem.

IT HAS BEEN WITHDRAWN BUT…

The “judicial reform” announced by Israeli Justice Minister Yariv Levin on January 5 includes changes such as limiting the powers of the Supreme Court and the power to have a say in judicial appointments.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced on March 27 that he had postponed judicial regulation, sparking an increase in protests and mass strikes across the country, but announced that he would put judicial regulation back on the agenda after parliament approved the 2023-2024 budget in late May.

The government had recently pushed the button for judicial regulation after its negotiations with the opposition stalled.

The Netanyahu government announced that the bill that will remove Supreme Court control over the government within the scope of judicial regulation will be submitted to Parliament on July 24 for the second and third ballots.

Thousands of Israelis, including fighter pilots, submarine officers and other elite troops, who opposed the government’s “judicial reform”, had decided to leave their volunteer reservists behind.

In the Israeli press, it was claimed that Defense Minister Gallant was working to delay the bill that would lift the control of the Supreme Court over the government, following the reaction of reserve soldiers in the army.

Leading personalities from Israel’s politics, military, security, economy and judiciary spoke out against the government’s judicial regulation.

The Netanyahu government’s protest movement against judicial regulation has been going on for about 7 months. (AGENCIES)
