Weapons attack before the Women’s World Cup: there are dead and injured

New Zealand, which is preparing to host the Women’s World Cup, was rocked today by an armed attack…

Hours before today’s Women’s World Cup kicks off, a shootout broke out in Auckland city centre. According to initial reports, two people lost their lives and six were injured. A police officer was said to be among the injured.

New Zealand Prime Minister Chris Hipkins said the attack was not a terrorist attack and the Women’s World Cup would go ahead as planned.

While no explanation was given as to the attacker’s political and ideological motivation, it was claimed that the attacker carried out the attack with a shotgun. Authorities announced that the attacker was also found dead.

Auckland Mayor Wayne Brown said: “All FIFA staff and football teams are safe. “There has never been anything like this before in our beautiful city.”

The opening match of the Women’s World Cup will take place today at Eden Park in Auckland between teams from New Zealand and Norway.

Hosted for the ninth time, the Women’s World Cup will be hosted by New Zealand and Australia.
