“We are toying with the idea of increasing support to Ukraine in terms of mine detectors and demining equipment because the demand from Ukraine is serious and high,” said South Korean Deputy Security Advisor Kim Tae -hyo.

Yoon called for more support after yesterday’s talks with Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelensky, where he made a surprise visit. That visit followed a NATO summit that ended last week in the Lithuanian capital Vilnius, and a visit to Poland, where Yoon expressed her solidarity with Ukraine.

against Western pressure

South Korea is considered a US ally and a major arms exporter, but has so far ignored all Western pressure to support Ukraine. The reason for this lies, among other things, in the country’s trade relations with Russia and its influence in North Korea.

In a press conference, Yoon said South Korea would also increase “military support,” having already shipped shipments of non-lethal support measures such as body armor and helmets last year.
