The Ukrainian parliament agrees to move the Orthodox Christmas
The Ukrainian parliament wants to change the date on which Orthodox Christmas is celebrated from January 7 to December 25. The purpose of the change is “to dissociate the party from the Russian legacy”. President Volodimir Zelensky introduced the bill himself.
Two of the three largest Orthodox churches in Ukraine had already decided to switch to the Gregorian calendar, which both Catholics and Protestants use. In 2017, December 25 became an official public holiday in Ukraine. However, the country’s largest Ukrainian Orthodox church has so far adhered to the Julian calendar, which is also used in Russia. The church, which still has ties to Moscow, has yet to comment on the change.
South Korean President visits Ukraine
South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol is visiting Ukraine today for the first time to speak with his Ukrainian counterpart Volodimir Zelensky. This was reported by the South Korean news agency Yonhap.
The trip comes as a surprise, after Yoon also visited the NATO summit in Lithuania and added a visit to Poland. In Poland you declared your solidarity with Ukraine and wanted to explore ways to fight the Russian invasion.
The Russian military is “satisfied” with the army leadership
Russian soldiers are increasingly fed up with the command of the Russian army. This was stated by the British Ministry of Defense in its daily intelligence update. He says that high-ranking Russian soldiers are increasingly faced with open criticism from subordinates.
Something that also happens in the highest echelons of the military. Last week, Russian general Ivan Popov was fired after it became known that he had offended the Russian army command in a video originally intended for his own troops.
Ukrainians force Russian troops from their posts
Ukrainian General Oleksander Tarnavskyi, who commands troops based in the south, said on Telegram that his troops are systematically driving Russian soldiers away from their positions.
Russian enemy losses over the past 24 years would exceed 200 troops, he reports.
