NATO Leaders Summit Assessment by Zelenskiy
As the war between Russia and Ukraine continued, Ukrainian leader Zelenskiy, who attended the NATO Leaders’ Summit held in Lithuania, made assessments.
“This is very important: for the first time since independence, we have established a security base for Ukraine on the way to NATO. They are tangible security guarantees endorsed by the 7 best democracies in the world. We’ve never had a security foundation like this before, and it’s on par with the G7. “On this basis, we will build a new and legally binding architecture of bilateral security agreements with the most powerful countries.”
EQUAL BETWEEN EQUAL
“More importantly, during these two days of the Summit, we have removed all doubts and uncertainties about whether or not Ukraine will participate in NATO. Be! For the first time, not only do all the allies agree to this, but a large majority of the alliance strongly supports it. Never before have the words “you are equal among equals” to Ukraine from any NATO member really made sense. Now everyone understands that this is a fact. Equal among equals. With our victory and our accession to NATO, we will reaffirm this fact. Previously, Russia’s rulers wanted NATO to have its own fence around the corner. We have left this Russian ambition on the fringes of European history, behind the fence of our unity in Europe and the free world in general. Now I am grateful to everyone who works for unity in Vilnius!” he used the phrase.
THANKS FROM ZELENSKY TO THE LEADERS INCLUDING ERDOĞAN
Zelenskiy thanked almost all the leaders of the countries that participated in the summit, including the host country Lithuania, which hosted the summit, saying: “Mr. President Erdogan and Turkey… You said that today you saw Ukraine moving closer to the membership of the alliance. This means a lot. Thank you! Thank you for upholding the security of the Black Sea with principles…Turkey is doing historic things for all of us. President Erdogan and the Norwegian Prime Minister spoke today about reconstruction… Clarity of partners’ commitments is extremely important. Thanks for that!” he said.
Zelenskiy also thanked the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, and the NATO Secretary General, Jens Stoltenberg.
