Influx of ‘Arab tourists’ to Trabzon
Trabzon, which has many destinations such as Uzungöl and Sümela Monastery in cultural and nature tourism, is experiencing activity in the summer season.
The population of the city, where 4,500 tourists arrive from 24 different destinations from 12 different countries in the Middle East and the Gulf with charter flights increased to 35 per day, has increased with tourist migration.
Governor İsmail Ustaoğlu said: “In 2022, we had 2,700 international flights for a total of 1 year. This year, the number of planned trips is around 3,950, only between June 16 and August 31. Governor Ustaoğlu said that inspections were carried out regarding exorbitant prices.
4,500 TOURISTS COME DAILY
Foreign tourists who want to see the beauties of the eastern Black Sea region show interest in the high-altitude plateaus, as well as visiting the resorts of Uzungöl and Sümela Monastery in Trabzon.
In the city, where the activity of the summer season continues, 4,500 tourists from Middle Eastern and Gulf countries such as Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Oman arrive with daily charter flights, the number of which has increased to 35.
While the city’s population increases with tourist migration, hotels, hostels, bungalows, car rental and tour agencies offer services at full capacity. In the city, which has come to light with exorbitant price practices, inspections are also tightening and attempts are being made to extend tourism to 12 months.
’35 FLIGHTS FROM 12 DIFFERENT COUNTRIES, 24 DIFFERENT POINTS’
Trabzon Governor İsmail Ustaoğlu stated that the city started the 2023 tourist season well, saying:
“Trabzon is going through a high tourist season. Especially from our Gulf countries, there are 30-35 daily flights on average from 12 different countries and 24 different points. The number of planes that enter our international terminal daily is 30-35, and on average around 4,500 enter every day.
Of course, apart from this, about 25 planes arrive daily from different parts of our country to Trabzon, especially via Istanbul. Some of them are also our tourists. This year, especially after the festival, there was an important arrival of tourists to our city. Compared to last year, I say this for June, there is only an increase of almost 90 percent.
‘WE NEED TO AVOID THE ADDITIONAL PRICE’
Governor Ustaoğlu affirmed that inspections have been tightened in the city, which has come to light with exorbitant pricing practices, saying: “It is equally important that our Trabzon, which has had such a good period, welcomes our guests and tourists from all walks of life in a good way. We need to avoid exorbitant pricing, which is reflected to the public, especially in terms of quality and standard of service, and especially in terms of prices. So at this time, it is “very important to us that such a fragile sector and our Trabzon are permanent for a long time. Especially different pricing, exorbitant pricing that our inspection commissions are in the field and we are conducting intensive inspections and we will definitely review it,” he said.
INCREASE IN TOURISM NUMBERS
Drawing attention to the tourism figures, Governor Ustaoğlu made the following statements:
“We see that there is a big difference between last year and this year in terms of the tourist season and the entry of tourists. Last year we had a total of 2,695 flights, that is, 2,700 international airline flights, for a total of 1 year in 2022.
This year, the number of trips scheduled between June 16 and August 31 is around 3,950. Even this, when we look at it, there’s almost a 60-70 percent increase between last year and this year. Now, our merchants and citizens must be prepared for this” (DHA)
