In footage filmed at a location in Rhodes, a waiter dressed in a T-shirt and shorts walks around with a tray up to his chest and serves sunbathers and vacationers on a special platform called a lodge. The images shared on social media suddenly broke the sharing record and caused a huge reaction.
The Greek authorities launched an investigation after the reaction increased. It emerged that the owner of the place is a businessman who runs the Greek parliament canteen, while Labor Minister Adonis Georgiadis and another cabinet minister, Sea Minister Miltiadis Varvitsiotis, also confirmed that an investigation has been opened.
The shared images created outrage on social media.
Georgiadis said: “These images are disgusting. I sent the inspectors as soon as I saw them. We all need to understand that the era of slavery is over. Employees are not slaves, they are people with rights. We are here to obtain these rights. Every business person who forgets this will be rewarded for it,” he said.
It was noted that Greek coast guard teams also launched investigations at the “beach club” and that these hostels built on the sea were under scrutiny to determine whether they were legal or not. However, Greek media reported that these platforms were found to have been built in accordance with the law.

While some social media users commented, “The conditions for those who work in the service sector are very bad,” one user said, “Waiters are not slaves.”
Stamoulis Athanasios, president of the Rhodes Hotel Employees Union, said the images were disturbing.
