90 percent increase in public transport fares of the AKP municipality
With rising costs and rising gasoline prices, the Konya Metropolitan Municipality has increased its public transport fares by nearly 90 percent.
Student tickets increased from 2.50 lira to 4 lira, and full ticket prices increased from 4.50 lira to 8.50 lira.
The new rate will take effect on Monday, July 3.
On January 1, 2023, the AKP’s Konya Metropolitan Municipality held a public transport walk, offering student tickets for 2.50 lira and full tickets for 4.50 lira.
In addition, the public transport fares carried by minibus in Konya have been increased. Muharrem Karabacak, Chairman of the Konya Chamber of Minibuses and Public Service Vehicles, provided information on the arrangements made.
Konya Future Party MP Hasan Ekici stated that the reflection of high dollar exchange rates and other cost increases in public transportation is inevitable. However, he stressed that the rate of increase is too high and will put low-income citizens in a difficult situation. Ekici criticized the government’s economic management, saying the rate of increase should be reduced to a reasonable level.
