Monsoon rains cause flooding in India: one person dies
It was claimed that due to monsoon rains affecting Assam province, a red alert was issued in the region and people living in towns and cities at risk of flooding were evacuated.
In a statement from the Assam Disaster Management Authority, it was recorded that bad weather conditions and flooding affected some 500,000 people.
Approximately 14,000 people were placed in 83 open camps in 20 of the province’s 31 districts to combat heavy rains and flooding in the region.
Landslides occurred in various parts of Assam and Sikkim states due to heavy rain, while landslides in Meghalaya state destroyed the exterior of a large stadium and damaged numerous parked cars.
CLIMATE CRISIS CAUSES IRREGULAR RAINS IN THE REGION
The flood, which occurred in Assam province due to heavy rains in June last year, inundated 108 villages and displaced more than 115,000 people living in the villages.
The monsoon rains that occur in the months of June to September of each year cause great damage in the region.
Scientists share the view that the erratic and excessive rainfall that has occurred in the northeastern regions of Bangladesh and India in recent years is due to climate change. (AA)
