Russians shoot down drone over Kursk
Anti-aircraft fire brought down a drone over the southern Russian city of Kursk near the Ukrainian border, the regional governor said. Roman Starovoit said on Telegram that his air defense system was in action twice, Reuters reports. He made no mention of damage or casualties and asked residents to avoid the fallen debris.
A series of air strikes has been launched across the Ukrainian border into southern Russia. There have also been armed raids for which anti-Kremlin groups have claimed responsibility. Ukraine systematically refuses to comment on such attacks or raids.
Russia fires on targets in the Sumi region
Russian troops shelled nine communities in Ukraine’s Sumy region, with more than 147 explosions heard, the Kyiv Independent reported, citing the northeastern region’s military administration.
Russian forces fired into the area 21 times on Thursday, wounding one person and damaging a water tower and residential buildings and other homes, according to a Facebook post. Mortars, artillery, mines and air strikes were used.
Ukraine shoots down 13 cruise missiles
The Ukrainian Air Force shot down 13 Russian cruise missiles heading towards a military airfield in western Khmelnitskyi region early Friday. According to Reuters, the missiles were launched by Russian bombers from the Caspian Sea area.
Acting governor of the region Serhiy Tyurin said the attack targeted Viysk airport near Chmelnitskyi region. The launches were carried out by several Tupolev Tu-95 bombers, he said on Telegram, adding that they were intercepted mainly in the Chmelnitskyi region.
